| Time changes everything, and not always for the better. Apparently, pressures from a changing society, and an attempt for the "Old Drumm" to find it's place in it, failed. Either with or without the Drumm Board of Trustees permission, the new superintendent who took over the helm in the late 1970's, decided to create the "New Drumm" with different values and work ethics. Remnants of the "Old Drumm", including ribbons, trophies and awards, etc. were discarded and thrown into a dumpster. When Mr. Berkemeier and Russell Burton learned of this, they rescued as many items as they could. With the ribbons from the dumpster and those that were "over looked" at Drumm, made a total of 3,740 ribbons of the original 5,000 plus collection. These ribbons are alphabetized on this website. On the "link", Books About The Andrew Drumm Institute, is a book entitled "The Ribbon Collection" which contains pictures of the reframed ribbons, and is available through the Mid-Continent Public Library. |
